Learning for the long run

Our programmes

Kumon‘s maths and English programmes help children of any age and any ability to shine.

We aim to give our students the tools they need to enjoy learning and to thrive academically. As proven through an independent study conducted by the Education Policy Institute in England, Kumon students are over a year ahead of the national average, and over six months ahead of their peers in their maths learning at the end of primary school.

Rather than offering conventional maths and English tuition, our Instructors guide their students through work that is set at just the right level for them, keeping them engaged and making progress. They support and encourage students to work out answers by themselves, helping them to become self-sufficient, successful learners for the future. By studying little and often through daily worksheets and regular class sessions (online and/or in centre), our students steadily increase ability and fluency, building their skills in small, manageable steps.

The KUMON Maths Programme
The KUMON Maths Programme progresses from the very basics of counting to calculus and beyond, all without the use of a calculator.

Each level of the maths programme builds incrementally on the skills developed in the previous level, ensuring a solid understanding and the ability to put learning into practice.

Every student will begin at a comfortable level for them. Their individual starting point, along with their expected projection rate, is established at a free assessment.
KUMON maths for children aged five and under
Our maths programme helps early learners get to grips with numbers in an engaging way through colourful, fun worksheets and Instructor support.

Instructors encourage young students to work in an attentive, thoughtful way to develop concentration, attention span, and good learning practices ready for school and beyond.

Children gain confidence in maths, gradually progressing skills through small steps in our worksheets, developing ease and fluency with each topic before moving on.
KUMON maths for children aged six to 11
Our maths programme enables students of any ability to tackle maths with confidence ensuring each key skill is completely mastered before moving on.

Through daily maths study, students build fluency and ability as well as a positive and concentrated approach to study.

KUMON Instructors set maths study at just the right level for your child regardless of their age, allowing them to revisit missing skills or advance way beyond their peers without restriction.
KUMON maths for children aged 12 and older
Our maths programme helps students to develop a positive approach to maths, detecting any gaps in key learning foundations before building skills to reach school level and beyond.

KUMON Instructors support students to understand how to solve mathematical problems for themselves using examples as a guide, enabling them to become independent, confident learners that are open to the challenge of new work without teacher reliance.

KUMON students progress at their own pace, irrespective of age and school grade, offering them the chance to venture into complex mathematical calculations ahead of school curriculum.

The KUMON English Programme
The KUMON English Programme aims to develop each student's ability to read and understand a variety of texts, and to nurture a life-long habit of reading for education and enjoyment.

The English programme progresses from basic word and sentence building and culminates in critiquing advanced texts.

Each student starts at their own, individually set, starting point which will be established during their free assessment.
KUMON English for children aged five and under
The KUMON Instructor first observes how your child handles listening to the audio device and how they respond to small cues. This way, the KUMON Instructor knows how to motivate your child to start learning English and how to move forward.

Through English songs that awaken curiosity, your child hears words and sentences on a CD and repeats these. This is how listening skills are developed when learning English. Illustrated accompanying books ensure understanding. In this way, your child gains their first vocabulary and internalises sentence structures naturally, as they would learning their native language.

Printed hints and symbols encourage the children to work attentively and carefully. So, when learning English, they develop concentration skills and widen their attention span, as well as gain proper learning skills, which will be beneficial for them in school and other areas of life.

In the further course of our learning programme, your child learns to read and write and acquires grammar skills through compact, purposefully designed learning stages. They listen to the texts on CD first and expand their comprehension by increasingly demanding reading materials. Right from the start, and often accompanied by questions about the texts, they learn autonomously to approach an exercise and competently decipher text.

At each level of the English programme, students further develop their skills gained at previous stages. In this way they build a solid understanding.

In the first interview, the current abilities of each student are assessed, and on this basis - regardless of age - a starting level is determined at which your child can start learning English in a motivated manner.

Each day the child works with a CD, where they repeat what they hear, and look at a companion book to enhance understanding. By way of intensive daily contact with the language - often called a “language bath” - the child internalises the vocabulary and sentence structures in a natural way, just like when learning their native language, and developing a feel for it. Printed hints and symbols (the “teacher” in the material) encourage the child to work attentively and carefully. So, they develop their concentration and attention span, as well as good study habits, which will benefit them in school and in life.

Then your child will learn grammar, which is offered in a compact format. Later, your child turns to reading texts that gradually increase in length and become more challenging.

At the most advanced level of the programme, your child reads original English texts. They continue to listen daily to CDs, and thereby continuously enhance their listening and reading comprehension. Guided by questions, they acquire textual competence: they learn to extract information from a text and to competently develop an understanding of it.

At each stage of the English programme, students continue to enhance their skills gained at previous learning stages and so develop a solid understanding.

The KUMON English programme helps students develop a positive attitude to learning English and master the language. They also learn to pay close attention, to get an overview, to extract information and to work in a structured manner.

Through daily contact with the language (listening, repeating, reading, writing) your child will quickly improve their English skills.

In the first interview, the KUMON Instructor will assess at which level your child will join the programme. Unlike conventional English tutoring, the starting point is where your child can do the work with ease. If your child starts with topics he or she is already familiar with, they  can gain momentum and develop the self-confidence needed  to progress further.

At each stage of the English programme, students continue to enhance their skills gained at previous learning stages and so develop a solid understanding to strengthen their ability to learn independently.
